Eye care in Scotland
Looking after your eyes is very important, particularly as they are easy to neglect as many eye conditions do not cause pain. In Scotland, all eye examinations are free if you are ordinarily resident in the UK or exempt from NHS charges.
You should attend regular eye exams carried out by an Optometrist at your local opticians and NHS inform provide guidance on how often you should attend an eye examination. Eye exams will check the health of your eyes and look for signs of other related health conditions. Your optician should be your first port of call if you have an urgent related eye condition and are able to refer you to an eye specialist such as an ophthalmologist if necessary.
Optometry care in Scotland is usually to a very high standard and optometrists have access to advanced technology and screening tools used to detect abnormalities with vision.
